Gov. Signs SD Senator’s Bill to Help Veterans

Governor Jerry Brown signed a bill to help preserve the history of military veterans Thursday – a measure authored by San Diego Senator Joel Anderson (R).

Senate Bill 725 guarantees a promise made to military veterans that their memorial halls and buildings will be protected. The measure ensures that veterans’ organizations do not lose their right to return to halls and buildings dedicated for their use when temporarily displaced for repairs or renovations.

In a statement released Thursday, Sen. Anderson has this to say about the bill:

“This bill preserves our state’s commitment to the brave military men and woman who have served out country. Let us uphold the promise we’ve made and make sure our military veterans are always welcome in the facilities dedicated in their honor.”

Sen. Anderson said the bill is linked to a promise the State of California made to veterans’ organizations after World War I that guaranteed certain buildings would be permanently designated for use by vets.

The bill was supported by several groups including American Legion, AMVETS, Veterans of Foreign Wars Vietnam Veterans of America and other vet organizations.
